The ceremony for the awarding of newly elected foreign members of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN) to the Chinese Science Innovation Centre was held on 12 March 2022 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. The International Academy of Science and Technology (IAST) was the guiding unit for this event. There were ten IAST members elected by the Centre as foreign members of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and Professor Shen Boxiong, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and technology of our university, was among them.
The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences is the largest scientific organization in Russia recognized by the United Nations. Its members are scientists and experts who have made significant achievements in the natural sciences and humanities. The Academy has 24 academic departments, including 18 Nobel Prize winners, more than 270 members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and more than 30 members of the Russian National Academy of Medical Sciences. Foreign academicians come from 48 countries around the world, including a number of Chinese scientists.
Professor Shen Boxiong was selected for the National Hundred Million Talents Project and was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Young and Middle-aged Experts and received a special allowance from the State Council. He is currently an invited executive director of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Energy Institute and Carbon Capture Science & Technology. Prof. Shen has been working in the field of air pollutant control and solid waste resource recovery for a long time, and has presided over nearly 100 research projects at the national key fund, as well as provincial and ministerial key and major projects. In the fields of flue gas nitrogen oxides and heavy metal pollutant removal control, Prof. Shen has established cooperation with dozens of domestic enterprises in the respect of Industry-University-Research and development. Some of the achievements have been successfully transformed and widely applied, with more than 20 authorized invention patents. Prof. Shen has published more than 300 academic papers, including nearly 200 SCI papers, and has been listed in the top 2% of scientists worldwide for many years. Prof. Shen has received six scientific and technological awards, including the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress in Hebei Province, the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress in Tianjin, and the First Prize of Innovation Achievement in China Industry-University-Research.
