Counsellor for Education and Science of the Embassy of Finland in China Visited

On September 24, Mari-Anna Suurmunne, Counsellor for Education and Science of the Embassy of Finland in China, was invited to visit our university. Vice President Ma Guowei received Mari-Anna Suurmunne and her delegation and expressed a warm welcome to her.

Afterwards, Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne attended the 2021 Opening Ceremony of the Finland Campus of HEBUT and introduced Finnish higher education to the students in detail.

Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne firstly introduced the basic situation and social development history of Finland. A series of statistics were used to show the students a Finland with a highly developed economy, high quality of education and the highest happiness index in the world.

Next, Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne gave a detailed introduction to Finnish higher education in terms of Finnish education philosophy, education system, comparison between Finnish and traditional Western education models, and development of international education in Finland. She pointed out that the advanced education concept, equal educational resources and diversified and open education model are the fundamental advantages of Finnish education. Compared with other traditional Western education models, Finnish higher education is more flexible and diverse, both professional and applied, and emphasizes the attention to students' personal growth.

Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne said that Finland Campus of HEBUT is an active attempt of China and Finland in the field of higher education, aiming to become an internationally renowned campus integrating the characteristics of higher industrial training in China and Finland, and its "1+3" model is very innovative and exemplary. With the joint efforts of Chinese and Finnish teachers, HBUT Finland Campus will grow and develop well in the future.

Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne's visit and introduction gave the students a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of Finnish higher education and its advantages. They expressed their expectations and confidence for their future study in Finland.

Counsellor Mari-Anna Suurmunne and her delegation also visited the History Museum of HEBUT to learn more about the 118 years of development of HEBUT, and made an inscription for the Museum to wish the University and Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology to cooperate and create brilliant future together.
