From 30 to 31 October 2021, the 8th International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Problems and Applications was held at our university online. Prof. Yan Weili, former member of the Board of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC) and former President of Hebei University of Technology, was the Honorary Chair. Prof. Yang Qingxin, President of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, former member of the Board of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC) and President of Tianjin University of Technology, was the Conference Chair. Prof. Cui, former member of the Board of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC) and recipient of the Outstanding Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, was also the Conference Chair. Professor Cui Xiang, a former member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC), and Professor Yang Shiyou, a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC) and President of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, were the co-chairs.
The opening ceremony was instructed by Prof. Li Yongjian, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Conference, and the opening address was delivered by Prof. Yang Qingxin, Chairman of the Conference, while Prof. Ma Guowei, Vice President of Hebei University of Technology, welcomed the online participants on behalf of the university and wished a successful conference. Professor Bin He, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Professor Antonello Tamburrino, University of Cassino-South Lazio, Italy, Professor Shao Tao, the recipient of the Outstanding Young Scientist Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and researcher at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Li Yongjian, Hebei University of Technology, China, were invited to give the conference presentations. The invited presentations were chaired by Prof. Yang Shiyou from Zhejiang University, Prof. Xu Guizhi from Hebei University of Technology, Prof. Chen Zhenmao from Xi'an Jiaotong University and Prof. Yuan Jiansheng from Tsinghua University, former Board member of the International Society for Electromagnetic Computing (ISEC). In addition, 20 invited presentations and 99 paper presentations were presented online and exchanged in depth in 12 sessions.
The conference opened with 3 online sessions with nearly 500 participants. The conference had 12 online sessions in different time slots, including more than 1,300 participants from the USA, Germany, Italy, Australia and other countries. A total of 22 outstanding presentations were selected based on the level of papers and presentations, and scored by the session chairs.
At the closing ceremony, Prof. Cui Xiang, Co-Chair of the conference, read out the papers included in the conference and the number of participants, and made a concluding speech, while highly praising the achievements of the teams in recent years and expressing his appreciation and hope for the younger generation of researchers and scholars. Finally, Prof. Li Liyi of Harbin Institute of Technology, the next ICEF International Conference Chair, entrusted Prof. Nie Qiuyue to make a report on the hosting of the 9th ICEF Conference, promising to organize the next ICEF Conference in accordance with the requirements of the International Conference and to invite all experts and scholars to gather in Harbin in three years' time to discuss the new opportunities in the development of the field of electromagnetism in the context of "double carbon". The conference will be held in Harbin in three years' time to discuss the new opportunities and challenges in the development of the electromagnetic field in the context of "double carbon".
This year's conference received a total of 146 papers from 12 countries and regions, and after a rigorous review, 146 papers were accepted. The conference will be presented to the international journals "The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering" (COMPEL) and "The International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Electronic Engineering" (JAMA). (COMPEL) and "The International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics", recommending the best papers from the conference proceedings. The main topic of the conference is electromagnetic field problems and their applications, covering essentially all current applications of electromagnetic field theory and its analysis.
The ICEF has been held every four years since its first edition was held in Beijing in 1988. Up to 2016 the International Conference on Problems and Applications of Electromagnetic Fields has been held seven times in Hangzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin, Chongqing, Dalian and Xi'an respectively. The conference was originally scheduled for 2020, but was postponed to 2021 due to the impact of the New Crown epidemic, making it 21 years since the ICEF conference was hosted by Hebei University of Technology again. The ICEF 2021 International Conference was a great success in promoting the relationship between the field of electromagnetism and the international academic community. The success of the ICEF2021 International Conference has promoted the cooperation and communication between China and international academic groups in the field of electromagnetism, and also fully reflected the international academic level and status of Hebei University of Technology in the field of electromagnetism.
