Effective Disinfection Rate of 99.7% Against Delta Variant of Covid: HEBUT Contributes "Chinese Wisdom" to Defeat the Covid-19

"The effective disinfection rates of Delta variant of Covid were as high as 99.48% and 99.70% after 15 and 30 minutes of treatment with this material" - these are the results of the National Biosafety Laboratory (BSL-3) of the Wuhan Institute of Virus Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences on the activity test of a new disinfectant developed by the Institute of Biophysics of Hebei University of Technology in cooperation with Hebei Kelvic Biotechnology Co.Ltd.

The results of the CAS Testing Company's biosafety tests on the material show that the acute oral toxicity test was non-toxic, the erythrocyte micronucleus test showed no abnormalities, the intact skin irritation test was non-irritating and the acute inhalation toxicity test was non-toxic. The two test results fully demonstrate that the disinfectant has excellent characteristics of high efficiency and safety.

The product was developed on the basis of the patent application "A water-soluble conjugated polymer with antibacterial and antiviral properties and its preparation and application" transferred from the Hebei University of Technology. The material has been tested for efficacy and safety against hand, foot and mouth virus, influenza A virus and pseudocoronavirus, showing that the core component of the material is capable of generating reactive oxygen species, which can kill viruses by destroying the vesicle structure on the surface of the virus. As team leader Professor Xing Chengfen said, "The results of the tests on the Delta variant of Covid have demonstrated that the disinfectant is broad-spectrum, efficient and safe for killing variant of Covid with similar vesicle structures on their surfaces".

At the beginning of the Novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, Professor Zhan Yong, Honorary Director of the Institute, was keenly aware of the feasibility of the Institute's water-soluble conjugated polymer material, which has its own intellectual property rights, for coronavirus elimination. Under the leadership of Professors Zhan Yong and An Hailong, a research team of six Yuanguang Scholars and 25 postgraduate students was formed under the chairmanship of Professor Xing Chengfen. With the assistance of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, China CDC, the team has successfully developed a new type of highly effective and intelligent polymer material to kill viruses, destroy bacteria and remove haze.
