HEBUT Students Pick Up the Top Prize in CEDC (North China Division)

On August 1st and 2nd, 2019, the final of the North China Division of the 13th National Chemical Engineering Design Competition for College Students (CEDC) was held in Yanhan University. A total of 65 teams participated in the final. The “BASF plus” team (Hu Lingfeng, Wang Jianwen, Yuan Luohao, Zhang Yan and Li Zhehua) of the School of Chemical Engineering of HEBUT won the third place and picked up the top prize. They will take part in the national finals held in mid-August on behalf of HEBUT. 

With the title of “comprehensive utilization of refinery tail-gases and alcoholysis waste liquid to produce ten tons of vinyl acetate per year”, the “BASF plus” team has designed several sub-projects such as the production process, key equipment, automatic control, piping and instrumentation, workshop layout and economic estimate. The projects are based on the concept of “energy-saving, environmental protection and recycling economy via Aspen Plus, AutoCAD , SW6, MATLAB, ALOHA, Risk System and other professional software tools, which highlights the professional expertise of the students at HEBUT.  

CEDC is a competition at the highest level in the field of chemical industry in China. It aims to cultivate college students’ innovative thinking and engineering skills in various aspects, and to implement the “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan”. A total of 1545 undergraduates with 309 works from 60 universities participated in the North China Division. 30 teams and 150 undergraduates of HEBUT took part in the competition.
