Education Delegation Led by President Han Xu Visited the US and Canada Successfully

In order to implement “Belt and Road Initiative” and Xiongan New Area national strategy, promote the “Double First-rate” construction and internationalization at HEBUT, President Han Xu, at the invitation of the University of Arizona and the University of Ottawa, paid an official visit to a number of American and Canadian universities from 20th to 28th, August, 2017.

On August 21, the delegation visited the University of Arizona. Both parties discussed the establishment of long-term cooperative partnership, the recruitment of high-level talents, and in-depth academic and research cooperation. The two sides agreed to cooperate on materials science, electronics and information, environmental engineering, electrical engineering as well as joint cultivation of undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students.
 

On August 22, the delegation visited the University of California San Diego. Both parties reached a consensus on public services such as “smart city” and “comprehensive health” in addition to the recruitment of high-level talents.

On August 24, the delegation visited the State University of New York at Binghamton. Based on the existing cooperation, both parties discussed further cooperative talent cultivation as well as student and faculty exchange in electrical engineering, electronics and information engineering, materials engineering, industrial engineering, high-end intelligent equipment manufacturing and new energy. The two sides also signed the agreement on joint doctoral programs. The delegation visited the laboratories of the Engineering Institute and their network information processing center in the afternoon.

On August 25, the delegation visited Cornell University. Both parties shared their views on future student and faculty exchange, talent recruitment as well as cooperation on environmental engineering, biomedical science and bioengineering.

On August 26, the delegation visited the University of Ottawa. The two universities signed a cooperation memorandum on cooperative cross-nation studies and a degree program for the students of the University of Ottawa at HEBUT, apart from an agreement on the cultivation of outstanding undergraduates.

During the visit to the University of Ottawa, the delegation paid a visit to Ms Yang Xinyu, Minister-Counselor of Education Office, Embassy of PRC in Canada. Counselor Yang lauded the development and internationalization of HEBUT in recent years and expressed her willingness to fully support the cooperation between HEBUT and Canadian universities.

This visit has led to six agreements and memorandums between HEBUT and foreign universities. The delegation made extensive contact with their international colleagues and obtained the first-hand information on disciplinary construction, teaching management, academic research, and current implementation of joint programs. In addition, the delegation also discussed the feasibility of new projects, thus laying solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides.
