Research interest                                       

In general my research interest is in image and signal processing, and focus on primarily in three different areas. The first area explores algorithms to build image saliency models and the application of image saliency to signal processing, such as aesthetic assessment, boundary detection, image retargeting, and so on . The second area explores facial expression recognition methodology, especially on micro-expression analysis and recognition. A micro-expression is a brief, involuntary facial expression shown on the face of humans according to emotions experienced. Because it is hard to be detected by eyes and it is also hard to be identified by machines, the recognition rate is very low. It is a challenging task. There are a few groups who are doing the research, and our experiments show encouraging results. The third area explores surveillance, and cross-scenario transfer person and vehicle re-identification.
